This is the review you have been waiting for!
Indigo Girls Live - AT LAST
Gig: Mosaic Music Festival 2009 Venue: Esplanade Concert Hall, Singapore Date/Time:
16 March 2009/7:30PM
We apologize for the hazy photos. It was actually announced before the concert started that
cameras are not allowed. But when A & E first walked onstage, phone and digicams were already showing up, so we said what
the heck! this is a once in a lifetime event (atleast for us Filipinos who travelled to the Lion City just to see them) and
it did feel like it was one of those things, you know, when you have to pinch your arm just to check if you are not dreaming.
It
was a smallish venue. A third of Araneta Coliseum maybe. The crowd was a mix of Asians and expats. It took a while for the
crowd to loosen up and stand, but when that happened it astounded even Amy and Emily. An encore was called for, make that
clamored, with the crowd's synchronized tapping and shouting "More! More!". They came back with 2 more songs, the last of
which was Galileo, where you'd know who the hardcore fans were, knowing every single line and singing/shouting it back
to the the Girls.
Amy was in a good place, smiling all throughout the show, making animated talk about them visiting
the zoo and Chinatown. Emily was more "reserved", smiling and giving the floor to the ebullient Amy. We heard she was not
feeling well. Poor thing. It was not evident in her vocals though, which was excellent. Both girls played and sang well.
Well is not the word here. They were awesome. Phenomenally astoundingly awesome. After every song, every single one, Sully (their
longtime guitar tech) would hand a different acoustic guitar to the Girls or switch those to ukuleles, banjos or mandolins.
Amy played the harmonica AND guitar when they sang Become You. Emily is a genius (there is no other word)with her instruments.
36 hours after, we were still reeling from our IG encounter.
The set list included old and new songs. Amy said since
they weren't sure of their following in Singapore (inset crowd's objection)they "picked a song or two from each album".
The crowd proved them wrong. By the third song, people were shouting requests "sing Ghost! Love's Recovery!..
